Matt is proud to be born and raised in Canton, Ohio, where he graduated from Canton McKinley Senior High School in June 1998 with honors.  Matt enrolled at Bowling Green State University in August 1998 and achieved his Bachelor of Science in Education with a Sport Management Enterprise major and a Marketing minor in May 2002.  That summer, Matt was the recipient of a full graduate assistantship in the School of Exercise, Leisure, and Sport at Kent State University and Matt enrolled into the program in August 2002.  During this two year assistantship, Matt had a great experience as a teaching and research assistant, learning both in the classroom and in the field, in a variety of different engaging and educating work experiences.  At the age of 23, Matt achieved his Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Kent State University in May 2004.  
 
Community service is an integral part of Matt’s purpose to serve others.  Matt has been a parishioner of the Newman Center Parish at Kent State University for the past fifteen years and he loves to serve his church in a variety of roles.  Matt was elected by his peers in June 2016 to serve as the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Newman Center Parish Council #15312 in Kent and is he is now serving his third year in that leadership position.  Matt previously served as the Deputy Grand Knight and as the Chancellor for the council.  Matt regularly serves his church parish as a Liturgy Coordinator; Eucharistic Minister; Lector; and Collection Usher.  He has also served in the past as a Parish Council Member, High School Minister, RCIA Sponsor, and Altar Server.
 
Matt is in the fourth year of his leadership role with the HALO Foundation, continuing his service as the President of the Executive Board.  The HALO Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Akron, Ohio that works to develop young leaders in the community.  Matt has also worked with many other different boards and organizations as  the Executive Board Treasurer for the Open Arms Adoption Agency based in Streetsboro, Ohio for one year; as a territory chair for the Friends of Scouting Campaign for the Boy Scouts of America Great Trail Council in Akron; and he served three years on the Executive Board of the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters as both chairperson and committee member on the education, scholarship, and charity golf outing committees.
 
In Matt’s free time, he enjoys spending quality time with his lovely wife Julie, their infant son Braxton, their dog Coach, and their cat Calvin.  Matt also loves spending time with his family and friends, attending sporting events and concerts, traveling, and boating.  His favorite sports are football, basketball, and auto racing.  Matt is a devoted father and husband, and a strong advocate for Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Northeast Ohio.  He is always cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and the 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
